Lesson 2.2 – Steering Wheel Column Copy

Preamble

Review of Lesson 2.2

Procedures:

  1. Unbolt Steering column covers.
  2. Disconnect the wire harness but do not cut these wires.
  3. Unbolt the lower steering shaft.
  4. Unbolt the center shaft. The column will drop down.
  5. Remove steering wheel and column as one unit.Optional Procedures if not sold as an assembly:
  6. Place assemble on work bench. Undo the main bolt while holding steering wheel.
  7. Place bolt on end of shaft until flush.
  8. Tap bolt with hammer to disconnect steering wheel and column.

Quality Control:

  1. The column must be complete with accessories.
  2. Plastic coverings must be in good condition.
  3. Lever for turn signals and headlights should not be broken or damaged.
  4. Hazard warning buttons should not be damaged.
  5. Notate any damage on the work order.
  6. It is important to use the nut on the end of the shaft while hitting the shaft in order to prevent damage to the threads.
  7. Basic tools are required.

Health & Safety:

  1. Standard PPE applies.
  2. Risks include awkward position under the dashboard, cuts to hands in tight spaces.
