Lesson 3.1 – Disconnect Drive Shaft And Transmission Copy

Review of Lesson 3.1

Procedures:

  1. Disconnect and remove drive shafts.
  2. Undo bolts at rear yolk.
  3. Drop down and slide out of transmission.
  4. Place in appropriate area.
  5. Remove transmission cross member.
  6. Remove Engine cross member.
  7. Undo lower motor mounts.
  8. Remove lower rad hose. Ensure there is a proper catchment container for residual fluids.
  9. Undo transmission cooling lines at radiator and transmission.
  10. Disconnect transmission linkage. Wire harness and connectors should never be cut always unbolt or disconnect.
  11. Disconnect fuel lines at injection (engine side).
  12. Disconnect wire harness and engine control modules. Wire harness and connectors should never be cut always unbolt or disconnect.

Quality Control:

  1. Automatic and standard transmissions will have different linkages and lines to disconnect and remove.
  2. Always have catchment containers for fluids as you remove parts.
  3. Any damage should be noted on the work order.
  4. Universal bolts should be placed back in so you don’t lose them.
  5. The drive shaft should not be broken or crooked.
  6. The strips must not be damaged.
  7. Wiring and connectors should be in good condition.
  8. If 4×4 there will be a transfer case that will need to be separated.
  9. Replace bolts as required to keep area clear of debris.
  10. Specific Tools include a hoist, axle stands, hydraulic jack.
  11. Have required tools nearby for better organization.

  2. Risks: It is important that you ensure that the vehicle is secure and balanced because of the considerable weight changes caused by the removal of the parts.
