Lesson 3.10 – Brake Rotors

Review of Lesson 3.10


  1. Lubricate wheel nuts.
  2. Remove the wheel.
  3. Disconnect the ABS sensor but do not cut wire.
  4. Place a catchment under the suspension to catch any residual oils.
  5. Undo bolts from the caliper.
  6. Remove rubber brake line and place in the catchment.
  7. Crimp hoses if necessary.
  8. Remove the cotter pin.
  9. Undo the main lock-nut or main spindle-bolt. The brake rotor will slide off of towards you.
  10. Mark stock numbers on all parts.

Quality Control:

  1. Disable handbrake before performing this operation.
  2. Cotter pins are commonly found on older model vehicles. Late model vehicles typically do not use carter pins.
  3. Basic tools required.

  1. Standard PPE applies.
  2. Risks:
    – It is recommended that you use a dust mask when removing brakes and brake pads.
    – Brake pads may contain asbestos.
    – Risk of cuts
    – Risk of dust in eyes
