Lesson 4.4 – Vehicle Sectioning Copy

Preamble

Review of Lesson 4.4

Procedures:

  1. Determine location and pattern for cutting and if applicable any unbolting that is required.
  2. Refer to the cutting diagrams before sectioning parts.
  3. Ensure the stability of the vehicle before cutting.
  4. Choose the appropriate cutting tool and always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
  5. Clear the area around the vehicle before cutting body panel.
  6. Prepare and secure the cutting area.
  7. Set up supports so part being cut off will not fall. Request assistance if required when cutting.
  8. If required move the sectioned part with a forklift or ask for assistance.

Quality Control:

  1. Ensure the sales person has marked the area to be cut.
  2. Be careful of other usable parts when cutting sections.
  3. Secure the edges with tape.
  4. Tools: cut off saw/torch & fire extinguisher.

Health & Safety:

  1. PPE: steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, face shield.
    Risks:
    – Burn risks from gloves
    – Excessive noise
    – Risk of falling parts
  2. Watch for slag and sparks while cutting.
  3. When using cut-off saw or torches always be aware of surrounding area.
  4. When sectioning it is important to secure the vehicle due to weight changes caused by the removal of the part.
  5. Always confirm fuel tank has been removed before cutting a quarter panel or removing suspension.
