The estimator must apply a labour time to separate the recycled part from the welded components
A judgement allowance is applied on all welded-on recycled parts for the trim time, and must be listed separate from the remove and replace (Re & Re) time on the CL14.
If a recycled quarter panel is purchased as part of the repair on a vehicle, the estimator must apply a judgement time (allow extra time) to the recycled part. This allows the repair facility to remove only the part(s) necessary to complete the repair.
The recycler cuts the whole quarter section off the vehicle and sends it to the repair facility. The repair facility needs only the outer panel. The estimator would allow time to remove the outer panel from the section. That time is above the Re & Re time required for the shop to put the panel on the vehicle.
Air Conditioning Components:All components must be capped and sealed at time of evacuation and dismantling of part.
Quarter Panels:All quarter panel cuts are discussed with the recycled part supplier and the repair facility will verify with ICBC that the vehicle repairs will proceed prior to ordering the parts.
Doors:Doors include base outer trim, handles, weather strip, specified glass, and the window mechanism. Doors do not include mirrors, seat belts, inner trim panels, hinges, or electrical harnesses. All other attached parts are excluded unless agreed to by the estimator and the recycled part supplier, and listed on the invoice.
Mouldings for doors, fenders, and quarter panels are not guaranteed to be correct unless there is confirmation between the estimator and the recycled part supplier.
If one of the excluded items on the recycled door is included, the recycled part supplier will be responsible for the labour costs to remove the item(s). The excluded parts will only be included when it has been agreed to by both parties for extra cost and listed on the invoice.
Electrical:All electrical components are:
Example: alternator, starter
Engines:All engines must be drained of all fluids by the recycler prior to shipment. It is the repair facility’s responsibility to refill these parts with the appropriate fluids at time of installation.
All engines must have heat tabs installed, and are sold on an exchange basis.
NOTE: The core condition is not a factor, but a core as complete as the one supplied must be returned in a dry condition or is subject to an environmental surcharge.
Glass:Heated glass must be inspected and tested by the recycler to ensure proper operation of the heating tabs and elements prior to delivery. Condition of glass must be determined and accurately represented by the recycled part supplier at the time of the initial parts request.
Rear Hatch Assemblies:Rear hatch assemblies will be supplied complete with glass and hinges, less struts and inner trim panel. If one of the excluded items on the recycled hatch is included, the recycled part supplier will be responsible for the labour costs to remove the item(s). The excluded parts will only be included when it has been agreed to by both parties for extra cost and listed on the invoice. Spoilers are not included in purchase price, unless it is agreed between the estimator and the recycled part supplier and listed on the invoice.
Steering & Suspension:All components will be cleaned prior to delivery. Painting of steering parts by the recycled part supplier is to be discussed and agreed to between the repair shop and the recycled part supplier prior to shipping the part.
Front and rear suspension assemblies include:
Painting of suspensions parts by the recycled part supplier should be discussed between the person ordering and the recycled part supplier prior to shipping the part.

True or False: Before an estimator searches for recycled parts through the recycled parts locator the estimator will confirm whether the one of the following endorsements is in effect:
True or False: A recycler must respond to a recycled parts request within ten minutes of receiving the request.
True or False: One of the criteria used to determine if a recycler will be awarded a complete order is how fast the recycler can ship the parts to the repair facility.
True or False: A used aftermarket part may be substituted for a used OEM part in cases where a recycled part is not available.
True or False: A recycler has 24 hours to ship a part to a repair facility if the repair is within the recycler’s delivery area.
True or False: For parts outside a recycler’s delivery area shipment must be no greater than 72 hours.
True or False: If a part is shipped outside a recycler’s delivery area freight charges must be included in the quoted price.
True or False: If a part is less than $150.00 or smaller than a fender it is not eligible for a crating fee.
True or False: When disputes arise when the amount of damage exceeds the original estimate quoted by the recycler then repair facility will charge additional repair time beyond that originally quoted at a rate of $40.00 per hour.
True or False: If a recycled part is not acceptable the repair facility has 7 days to return the part.
True or False: ICBC may approve compensation for labour when:• A recycled part is returned for reasons beyond the recycler’s control, and when ‘custom cutting’ of sheet metal parts reduces or eliminates the opportunity for resale. • An example of ‘beyond a recycler’s control’ is when a damaged vehicle is repairable, but during the repair process it is discovered there is additional hidden damage which causes the repair costs to increase resulting in the vehicle becoming a total loss.
True or False: Recycled parts 10 years or newer are warrantied for 6 months.
True or False: All other recycled parts are warrantied for 183 days from the date of purchase or 10,000kms of use whichever comes first.
True or False: Major mechanical parts must be installed by a trade qualified technician or the warranty is void.
True or False: All quarter panel cuts are to be discussed with the recycled part supplier and the repair facility will verify with ICBC that the vehicle repairs will proceed prior to ordering the parts.
True or False: The quality of parts must be accurately represented by the recycled parts supplier and reference the Automotive Recyclers Association Parts Grade and Damage Code.
